I used those categories to subtly suggest they are quite useless (sociologically) and that one shouldn't make such facile distinctions. In the context of legalising gay sex in India, am afraid I have no idea how these distinctions would fit in. Maybe you have something interesting in mind!

Manas,
The distinction (which you do not develop further) you make between Bharat, India and Hindustan is interesting. I think India evokes a sense of worry while bharat and hindustan create a feeling of frustration.......in the case of pink chadi controversy, this phenomena has been reversed. It wonder where your categories Bharat, India and hindustan fit in the controversy over legalising gay sex in india.....

Tarsh,

The problem was created by Hindustan, responded to by India, while Bharat was generally sidelined, or had nothing to do with it. And I wonder if I am making sense!

But you made a slip while asking, "Is the mob really upset about Indian culture?"

Worse, when you write: "I am extremely worried about the RSS and the Ram Sena, but am equally frustrated by the pink chaddi brigade. "

And I, Tarsh, am amazed at how your frustration can equal your worry.

In the West, gifting of panties by a girl is a matter of prestige for the male. It is gifted by the girl as a post-sex token of appreciation of good performance by the man in bed.
I think Nisha Susan also did not mean much else. There was no need for any controversy.
