Firstly, how is the volume of wealth possessed by the elected representative an indicator of how he will perform in future? Secondly, while there may be several crorepatis contesting the elections, how many of them actually get elected? It might be easy to point out to the apparent - several criminals contesting, several millionaires contesting, but at the end of the day, what matters is how many get elected to office.

I am unable to understand how we can foster equity by barring wealthy individuals from contesting elections. The electorate is surely not comprised of simpletons who don't know who they are voting for. If they feel the crorepati has substance, they will vote for him and if not, then otherwise.

The important issue is whether individuals with different aspirations and from varied backgrounds can enter the electoral contest arena without too many regulations restricting acces. If that be it, then public can decide who to vote for and who to throw out.
