We are deeply disturbed by attempts being made by interested quarters to take over several historically important and protected monuments in different parts of the country, in clear violation of The Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1958, on the excuse of offering worship there. Many of the monument are parts of the precious legacy of the country and under the rules framed under the Ancient Monuments Act, there can be no installation of worship wherever it had ceased.
We call upon the PM, who is also in-charge of the ministry of Culture to initiate immediate action to save these monuments from encroachment. We also call upon the Chief Minister of Delhi to rein in all such elements who are aiding and abetting the violation of the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1958. We also call upon the authorities to initiate immediate steps to evict the encroachers and to take all steps to ensure the protection of all listed monuments. This should set a model for official action against law-breakers irrespective of the religious community or ritual concerned.

प्राचीन इमारतों की जमीनों पर दिल्ली में हो रहे अवैध कब्जों को हटाने का सवाल उठाकर सही किया है आप लोगों ने। प्राचीन इमारतों पर से अबैध कब्जे हटाने के अलावा एक और भी पहलू है जिस पर ध्यान देना चाहिए वह यह है कि इन इमारतों के रखरखाव और संरक्षण के काम को भी सही ढंग से नहीं किया जा रहा है साथ ही अनेक तरीकों से इन इमारतों को विद्रूप बनानेकी कोशिशें भी होती रही हैं, अनेक प्राचीन इमारतें हैं जिन्ाका मूल स्वरूप नष्ट किया गया है ,ऐसे तत्वों के खिलाफ कानूनी कार्रवाई के लिए जागारूकता पैदा की जानी चाहिए। समस्या अवैध कब्जों को हटाने के साथ कब्जा करने वालों के खिलाफ कानूनी कार्रवाई करने की भी है। इस प्रसंग में पहल करके जब तक इमारतों की सूची पुलिस में एफआईआर के साथ नहीं दी जाती तब तक केन्द्र सरकार के आदेश से कुछ भी होने वाला नहीं है। केन्द्र सरकार यदि पहल करके कुछ हल्के एक्शन लेती भी है तो बाद में पुन: पहले वाली स्थिति बहाल हो जाएगी। स्थानीय स्तर पर प्राचीन इमारतों के संरक्षण के लिए ग्रुप बनाए जाएं और स्थानीय लोगों में इन इमारतों के संरक्षण के वाल पर जागरूकता पैदा की जाए तब ही कोई एक्शन ठोस शक्ल लेगा। इमारतें सरकार के संरक्षण से जिंदा नहीं रहतीं उन्हें स्थानीय संरक्षण और जागरूक चौकीदारी के दायरे में लाने की जरूरत है। प्राचीन धरोहरों की रक्षा सरकार कम और स्थानीय जनता की मदद से बेहतर ढंग से की जा सकती है।
