“Inside the networks of lobbyists and power brokers that dictate how this country is run”

November 18, 2010

This is explosive – you’ve heard of Niira Radia’s role in the 2G spectrum scam for months, and also that of two high profile journalists. Now, Open magazine has put out the phone transcripts, and even the audio, for all of us to listen in and know, as they put it, “how this country is run”. Many must have had the tapes with them for some time now, and god knows how many hundreds of hard disks have the CBI papers that made these allegations to begin with. But it takes courage to put this out.

For context, also read this profile of lobbyist Niira Radia, also in Open. Also see this April 2010 post from a media blog.

    Barkha Dutt’s response here

    And Vir Sanghvi’s here

What’s amazing is how the rest of the media has blacked out the story. Here’s one defence of having done so.

sadly they don’t accept comments on these statments. they used to solicit comments for TRPs through new media, blogs, twitter and so on… but now suddenly the tube has turned opaque.

    somebody’s put them on youtube

It is stunning how all mainline media has blacked it out. Almost nothing on google news.

I tried many times and finally managed to read it.

The funniest thing is Radia is telling Vir Sanghvi how Mukesh Ambani won’t come to interview unless it is scripted. Everything already fixed for him. And this so called journalist obliges. What a pathetic guy.

NDTV on Barkha Dutt’s defamation. Yep, we need more and more such defamation of brokers, lobbyists who pretend like journalists.

“Parliament is like a sterile woman and a prostitute”

    Remember the line ..

Who said only politicians are its clients .. ‘professionals’ from media and corporates too serve it better… compromising millions of people interests and thousand years of culture and tradition… wish we had listen to hind swaraj , a century old little book..

Oooops! That’s one place where Gandhi tripped badly (I mean in his use of terms like ‘prostitute’ and ‘sterile woman’). In our times at least, we should not be using these loaded sexist terms, no? :)

        aditya,
to match gandhi’s detestable language, stronger condemnation is required.
        not “oooops…tripped badly”
i can make out from your articles, comments, and responses that you have studied gandhi, and are favourably inclined towards him. what do you think of gandhi on women and sexuality? if possible, please e-mail your response to me, as this post is not on gandhi and women.

all these wonderful words: journalistic integrity, fact-checking etc seem to mean anything only when one asks questions about one of their own.
    they’re having a laugh.

one always knew that india has very few honest journalists. most of them are dealers, brokers, social climbers, and servile supplicants.

one always knew that india had very few honest journalists. what one did not know was that they were helping in ministry-formation(barkha dutt). or, working on resource allocation(vir sanghvi)!

I don’t think mainstream media blacked it out. This is Outlook’s cover story this week.

How about asking both to step down from their posts till matters are cleared??? After journalism is also public service.

i think it is a good opportunity for our much maligned politicians to ask these 2 holier than thou journalists to resign from there high positions and stay away from all reporting, because they have the power to influence public perceptions.

sohail, how can politicians ask journalists to resign??!!
those who employ them can throw them out. and, send out an ethically correct message.

Full agreement. Also it is a good time for civil society to DEMAND for strengthening of Prasar Bharati. Lok Sabha TV is actually doing very good current affairs programming these days which sadly very few people actually watches!

Indian medias are power broker who became middle man for the business houses thats why Mr Malya had won the rajy sabha seat.business men are running the country and making policy according to their needs.what will be happened to 125 million muslims and 165 million dalits who are left to die in hunger. This is good time for both communities to join together to fight with sons of jews and throw them to land of their orgins.

India had got independence in 1947,these hindus had sipphoned$ 480 billion mony out of country. obviously the previous commentator’s point about anti-semitism is entirely lost on you.
and yes, we’re all–right?–also anti-caste, but that doesn’t mean that all analysis must necessarily be reduced to the lowest common denominator: those bloody caste hindus!

India is suffering beause of hinduism ,hinduism is another name of corruption and barbarism so without annhilating the hinduism you can not bring justice in India whether you like it or not ,this is truth nothing else.you may call it anti emitism .

Kindly define this term : “son of jews”……who are you referring to??

And , if there is indeed a REAL “son of jew”..what is wrong with that??

          Thanks.

In capitalism there is no term called patriotism. Wherever investment is better rewarding funds would flow in. There is nothing special of this flight. Ofcourse another thing comes in play, thats is safety issue of the fund owners.

Let us all take it easy. Everything has a price. The development, certification by big bosses do not come without a cost. That cost is settled in such way.

Media is one of the greatest weapon. Everywhere the media is used as a tool to achieve one’s goal. One shouldn’t or cant expect massive capital is invested just for social service .Dont expect the people there work for nothing. 2G scandal shows how?
