Despite not attracting that many looks from other major European leagues, the Portuguese Liga NOS has been such a great source of world-class players over the last years. The likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes, and Diogo Jota have all come from Liga NOS to the Premier League and so on.
In this article, it is time for us to cover some Matchday 9 games, including the likes of Porto, Benfica, and Sporting!
This article was brought to you by our author, Kate Richardson, who came to this conclusion following a tough researching process. Check her out here!
Porto – Tondela
FC Porto will host Tondela on Saturday, for the ninth round of the Liga NOS at Estadio do Dragao.
The Dragons beat Santa Clara in the last round in the Azores, by 0-1, remaining in fourth place, with 16 points. As visitors, they have three wins and one defeat, having won seven of the last ten games.
On Tuesday, they drew 0-0 at Manchester City, securing a place in the Champions League round of 16 and increasing the number of clean sheets to four.
Tondela lost in the last round against Vitoria de Guimaraes, 0-2, having recorded their fourth defeat in eight rounds. The Beiroes occupy a modest 14th place, with eight points, and as visitors, they only add one point in three rounds. In the five clashes between them at Estádio do Dragao, FC Porto won four and lost one.
Who will win?
- In three of the four matches played by FC Porto at home, there were more than 2.5 goals.
- In two of the three matches played by Tondela away from home, there were more than 2.5 goals.
- FC Porto is the second-best attack of Liga NOS, with 19 goals.
On the one hand, an FC Porto increasingly solid, effective, and without making mistakes; on the other, a Tondela who is the third-worst defense of the championship, but who has won three of the last five games. So we believe in a game with more than 2.5 goals.
Benfica – Pacos Ferreira
Benfica and Pacos de Ferreira will meet this Sunday, at Estadio da Luz, in a match for the number nine of the Liga NOS.
The red team comes from a 1-2 victory against Marítimo, in Barreiros, and continues in the third position, with the same 18 points from Braga, second place, and four from leader Sporting. This Thursday, Jorge Jesus’ team thrashed Lech Poznan 4-0 and confirmed their progress to the next leg of the Europa League.
Paços de Ferreira is fifth, with 14 points, and comes from four consecutive victories in the competition, the last of which over Moreirense, in Moreira de Conegos, in a delayed match of MD7. The beavers arrive at this meeting at an excellent time, with five triumphs in their last six engagements. Will Pepa’s team be able to surprise in Luz?
- In four of Benfica’s last five games there have been more than 2.5 goals.
- The beavers come from six games in a row scoring goals.
- The pacenses have scored in four of their last five away games.
- In the last four Benfica games in Luz there have been more than 2.5 goals.
We expect a game dominated by Benfica, but with a good replica of Pacos Ferreira. Bet on more than 2.5 goals.
Famalicao – Sporting
Famalicao and Sporting face this Saturday for the ninth round of the Liga NOS. The match starts at the Municipal Stadium of Famalicao.
The Minho group lost 2-0 in the last round at Pacos Ferreira, in what was their second consecutive defeat as a visitor. With this result, the famalicences remain in 10th place, with nine points, having won only two of the eight rounds held so far.
The lions, on the other hand, hosted and defeated Moreirense, 2-1, remaining in the isolated leadership of Liga NOS, with four points more than second-placed Braga. Sporting comes from six consecutive wins, having won seven of the eight rounds so far.
- In three of Famalicao’s four matches as a visitor, there were more than 2.5 goals.
- In two of Sporting’s four matches as a visitor, there were more than 2.5 goals.
- Sporting is the best attack of Liga NOS, with 21 goals.
- Famalicao is the worst defense of Liga NOS, with 16 goals conceded.
Famalicao won just one of the four MDs as a visitor and still could not find their best pace. Sporting entered this season at full speed, having only conceded a draw in eight games. Bet on a game with more than 2.5 goals.
As we’ve seen throughout this article written by Kate, over 2.5 goals is the main order for MD 9 in the Portuguese league. Natural, Porto, Benfica, and Sporting are the most backed teams to win their games, so if you want to risk a little bit more, go with the aforementioned teams to win plus over 2.5 overall goals in the match.
